School News

I hope this message finds you well. Below are some updates regarding our collective support of immigrant and refugee students:

  • Safe School Posters
    • We made more copies in both English and Spanish
    • We have copies available in multiple languages
    • Please email me if you would like any more posters; we will send them to you through interoffice mail
  • Know Your Rights Toolkits (for students and families). These are meant for students and families who ask about what their rights are if a particular situation occurs with law enforcement.
    • Attached are the toolkits in multiple languages. We are still working on Pashto and Swahili.
    • Below are links to El Centro’s toolkits in English and Spanish

  • Dream Zone Trainings (for a small number of your staff) These are meant for those schools who wish to establish a Dream Zone, similar to a Safe Zone. The Dream Zone would have sponsors, who are staff you identify at your school, and they would attend one of the following trainings to learn how to best support undocumented students and the challenges they face:
    • Wednesday, April 26, from 9am-3pm for elementary and middle schools. Place TBD.
    • Friday, April 28, from 9am-3pm for high schools. Place TBD.
    • My office will pay for subs.
    • There is no cost for your school for these trainings.
    • So far we have about a dozen schools who have signed up for these trainings, but it’s not too late! Just email me if you would like to send some staff to a training ASAP.
  • Know Your Rights Workshops (for families). These are meant for parents and families who would like a more in-depth, interactive, participatory workshop to learn about their rights and what best to do regarding their immigration status.
    • El Centro is providing these workshops by request.
    • To request this workshop for your school, use the following link:

Thank you for all of your work and commitment to meet the needs of all of our students, especially the most vulnerable. Please let me know if you have any questions.
